How NVC processing works
After a petition is approved, an immigrant visa case generally moves through these stages:
01 · Case creation at the NVC
Once USCIS approves the petition and a visa is available, the case is transferred to the National Visa Center.
02 · Fees & forms
Visa and affidavit-of-support fees are paid, and the immigrant visa application (DS-260) is submitted.
03 · Document collection
Civil documents and the affidavit of support (Form I-864) with financial evidence are assembled and submitted.
04 · Consular interview
Once documentation is complete, the case is scheduled for an interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate.
